Spring is on it's way !

Posted on 28 February, 2015 at 0:15 Comments comments (6)

February was another very busy month for us with the all weather school being resurfaced and the Round Pen topped up . The end result is fantastic and we are very lucky to have a fabulous Equisilica Sand and Fibre surface to our arena, excellent for all weathers and as we have floodlights, easy to ride at any time.  Just at the right time to get the horses ready for the forthcoming competition season.

The Round Pen has also been topped up and rolled to make a fabulous surface for lungeing or schooling on as it is massive !.

We have invested in a new arena leveller to keep the surfaces looking good and riding well, and thanks to Bristol Showjumps, we will have new coloured showjumps arriving within 2 weeks.

We are also planning a number of training days and clinics with some great trainers so please do keep your eye on the website and facebook page for dates. Please let us know if there are any particular trainers you would like us to arrange clinics with. All training sessions are open to livery and non-livery participants.

We look forward to a busy and exciting Spring. Thank you to all for your continued support .

January Update

Posted on 27 January, 2015 at 7:30 Comments comments (0)

January has been a busy month with 11 riders taking part in the first Ride Out from the yard. I think it is fair to say we were incredibly lucky with the weather and everybody enjoyed the Mulled Wine beforehand and Soup, Bacon rolls and Port on our return – Tea for the drivers !. We will definitely do this again and will probably look at doing every other month to ensure people don’t get bored .

We will however have a slightly lower key ride on either Sunday 8th February or Sunday 15th for Oxleaze although anybody who wishes to join us will be more than welcome. 10.30am start with Coffee and Cake on our return. Route to be decided but again to last for approx. 2 hours with as much off road as we can plan subject to weather and ground conditions. Please let me know ASAP if you wish to come and which date would be best and we get on and organise a route.

We would like to welcome Jane, Andy and Alex Neilson with their 3 lovely ponies who joined us this month. We also have Gwen King joining us on 15th February with her horse Raz.

Sadly we have had to postpone our Wickstead Horseplay session due to unforeseen circumstances, we will rebook this and are looking at dates currently.

The best news is that the school surface has been ordered and work is being scheduled to remove the existing surface in preparation for laying the new one. The existing surface will be transferred to the Round Pen. I personally feel like a child at Christmas and cannot wait to be able to ride on the new surface !. Having this will enable us to run our own Clinics and Training days, we have lots of ideas for this and would definitely welcome suggestions of Trainers or clinics you would like us to organise. We are looking at organising a 2 day training clinic in April/May to include Flatwork, SJ, some arena XC fences and XC practice over the fences around the farm. Please let me know if this would be of interest to you so I can work on dates, trainers and costs.

For Sale :

16hh, TB x Dark Chestnut Mare, 16 years. Schoolmaster sort, happily jumps course up to 3’3 , XC, hacks alone or in company, excellent in heaviest of traffic. Not mareish or silly. Very low mileage, sound and ready to give somebody a lot of fun in general hacking, suit Mother rto ride out with Children on or off lead rein or Riding Club type activities. £1000 incl some tack. Speak to Louise or Tim if you know anybody who is looking.

Thank you to everybody for your continued support. Please do forward suggestions and ideas as we do want to make sure that we continue to run a happy and successful business and offer activities to interest everybody in addition to working to deliver a quality service to you and your horses.

A lovely testimonial today from Nicole,

Oxleaze stables fis the best yard I have been to. It has fantastic hacking all year round, there are also hunt jumps to practice over if you fancy it and if you don't want to go far you can hack round the land. The yard itself has everything to cater all needs with a lovely sized arena soon to be resurfaced, lunge arena, horse walker and stables that are very spacious and with great ventilation. The yard is very friendly with people and horses of all disciplines and ages. Louise and Tim are great managers and will always assist to cater for your needs to the best of their ability meaning the duties are carried out to a high standard. Thanks Lou and Tim for making the yard such a lovely place.

December Update

Good Afternoon All

We hope you had a lovely Christmas and are looking forward to the New Year celebrations.

December seems to have whizzed past in a bit of a wet blur !. Fortunately we have had some fabulous weather over Christmas which has been lovely for the horses to get out and enjoy the sunshine.

Thank you to everybody for bring something to the Christmas Dinner, a great evening and lovely to have the time to chat to people without rushing off to muck out etc. The food was lovely, many thanks to Debs and Steve for the Beef and Fran for such a delicious starter, we hope you all enjoyed the evening as much as we did.

We are continuing to move forward on the resurfacing of the school and will keep you all informed as we go. We are proposing a sand and fibre surface which we feel would be our preferred option due to low maintenance, longevity and rideability . This needs to be discussed with Mr Mann and we are hopeful of a positive and timely outcome .

It is proposed to run a couple of events in January:

1. Oxleaze “Ride-out”, a 2 hour approx hack out followed by hot soup and bacon sandwiches on return to the yard. The thought is to have this on a Sunday to suit the majority mid January, it will be open to all Oxleaze members and any friends who you think may wish to come out. Visitors are welcome to ride over or park trailers/boxes etc on the yard. This will be suitable for all levels and stages of horse/rider, with plenty of opportunities for canters etc for those who wish and slower options for those who don’t or are on young horses. Bear in mind I have 3 horses and am happy to lend 1 or 2 to suitable riders if required.

Proposed date : Sunday 11th January, 11am start.

2. Hire of Wickstead Horseplay Arena, proposed date 25th January, time tbc , maximum 4 horses. An opportunity to use the new arena, practice over showjumps and arena xc fences in a safe environment with a fabulous surface. It is planned to book an instructor for the session which will last for an hour, cost tbc but will be around £25 per person. Please let me know if interested asap so I can book the arena and trainer. There is an Arena Eventing competition at Wickstead on 6th Feb with classes 80cm,90cm and 100cm so a great opportunity to practice if anybody is interested in competing.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any queries or ideas or if you want to join any of the above sessions.
